Ontario Family Courts Overview
In family law cases — particularly those involving children — you may be required to go before a judge for a conference, motion, or trial. Understanding how Ontario's court system works can significantly reduce stress and improve your outcome.
Anna Boulman regularly appears in family courts throughout Durham Region and York Region, and will guide you through every step of the court process.
Courts We Appear In
Court Sub-Pages
- Durham Region Courthouse — Location, hours, phone numbers, and what cases are heard
- Newmarket Courthouse — Location, hours, Family Law Information Centre
- Ontario Family Law Court Forms — Key prescribed forms and where to find them
- Types of Appearances — Case conferences, settlement conferences, motions, and trials
Settling Out of Court
Going to court is not always necessary. We strongly encourage clients to consider out-of-court alternatives before litigation:
- Negotiation — Direct negotiation between lawyers to reach a mutually agreeable settlement
- Mediation — A neutral mediator helps the parties reach agreement
- Arbitration — A private arbitrator makes a binding decision outside of court
- Collaborative Law — A structured out-of-court process with trained collaborative lawyers
When Court Is Necessary
Sometimes litigation is unavoidable — when parties cannot agree, when urgent relief is needed, or when one party will not cooperate in good faith. When court is necessary, Anna Boulman will prepare you fully and advocate strongly on your behalf.
